Ration Card - PDS

Tricolour Ration Cards Scheme

The affluent Families do not purchase fod grains under PDS and therefore with a view to curb diversion of food grains and to provide more food grains to the needy families, the State Govt introduced Tri colour ration card scheme w.e.f. 1st May,1999. Accordingly, as per following criteria 3 different coloured ration cards are issued in the State:-

Yellow Ration Cards

  • Families having annual income up to Rs.15,000/-(Urban Area)
  • None of the members in the family should be a doctor, lawyer, architect or chartered accountant.
  • None of the members in the family should be professional tax payer,sales tax payer or income tax payer or eligible to pay such tax.
  • The family should not posses residential telephone.
  • The family should not posses four wheeler vehicle.
  • All the persons in the family should not hold totl two hectare rain fed or one hectare semi-irrigated or 1/2 hectare irrigated(double in drought affected talukas) land.
  • The Govt has taken decision to issue a BPL Ration Card on temporary Basis to the all Bidi workers, all Pardhi & Kolhati community vide GR dated 9/92008.
  • The Govt has taken decision to issue a BPL Ration Card on temporary Basis to the Abandoned women vide GR dated 29/9/2008 & 21/2/2009.
  • The Govt has also taken decision to issue BPL Cards to ex-mill workers with provision that they will get benefit of food grains of after distribution to regular BPL families and food grain available with shopkeeper.

Saffron Ration Cards

  • Families having annual income of Rs.15,001 to 1 lakh.
  • None of the members in the family should have four wheeler mechanical vehicles(excluding taxi).
  • The family in all should posses four hectare or more irrigated land.

White Ration Cards

The Families having annual income of Rs.1 Lakh or above, any member of the family possessing a four-wheeler or the family aggregately holding more than 4 hectare irrigated land isssued white ration cards.


Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY)

The poorest of the poor households from the BPL are provided food grains (Wheat at Rs.2/- per kg and Rice at Rs.3/- per kg) under this scheme w.e.f. 1/5/2001. Under this scheme, a target of 9316 beneficiaries was given to the Mumbai Rationing Area and accordingly ration cards have been issued to the beneficiaries.


Extended Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) First Extension

The Government of India further extended AAY with a target of 5.011 lakh beneficiaries to the State, Under this scheme, Households headed by widows or Terminally ill persons or disabled persons or persons aged 60 years or more or single women or single men with no assured means of subsistence or social support; all Primitive Tribal Households are given priority. Accordingly, Mumbai Rationing Area has issued 3960 ration cards to the beneficiaries.


Second Extension of Antyodaya Anna Yojana

The Government of India further extended AAY with a target of 4.81 lakh beneficiaries to the State, under this scheme, families falling under following categories have been identified and they are provided food grains. (a) Land less agriculture labours, marginal farmers, rural artisans / craftsmen such as potters, tanners, weavers, blacksmiths, carpenters, slum dwellers and persons earning their livelihood on daily basis in the informal sector like porters, coolies, rickshaw pullers, hand cart pullers, fruit and flower sellers, snake charmers, rag pickers, cobblers, destitute and other similar categories in both rural and urban areas; Accordingly, Mumbai Rationing Area has issued 3694 ration cards to the beneficiaries.


Third Extension of Antyodaya Anna Yojana

The Government of India the Third Expansion of Antyodaya Anna Yojana has given a target of 521500 beneficiaries to the state. Accordingly, Mumbai Rationing Area has issued 1757strong> ration cards to the beneficiaries. Thus, total AAY beneficiaries in the Mumbai Thane Rationing area are 20722. *Government has issued a Circular on 11/9/2009 to all concerned officers about giving AAY ration cards on priority to HIV/AIDS persons and Leprosy Affected Persons whose names are included in BPL lists and within the target.

In Mumbai AAY cards were issued to shelter less people.5159.


Annapurna Scheme

“Annapurna scheme” is being implemented in this State from 1st April, 2001. This is 100% centrally sponsored scheme. Under this scheme 10 kg. of food grains per month are provided free of cost to the old destitute people of 65 years and above age. The main eligibility criteria for the benefit of this scheme are that the person should not be in receipt of pension under the National old age pension scheme or state pension scheme.
